Industrial Wool Felt Manufacturer & Exporter
Felt: The Versatile Design Solution
Wool felt is a fabric produced without spinning, weaving, needling or knitting. By using mechanical action to interlock fibers by a suitable combination of mechanical work, chemical action and heat to produce a homogenous mass of interlaced fibers.
What is industrial wool felt?
Industrial wool felt is a dense, needle-punch textile made by mechanically interlocking wool fibres using moisture, heat and pressure — without spinning, weaving or knitting. The result is a homogeneous, isotropic material with predictable density, oil absorption, sound absorption and vibration-damping properties.
It is one of the oldest and most quietly ubiquitous engineering materials in the world — used today for sealing, polishing, gasketing, lubrication wicks, anti-vibration mounts, sound deadening, and as a substrate in countless OEM assemblies across automotive, aerospace, defence, jewellery, dental, marble, electrical, musical and civil-engineering industries.
Industrial-grade felt is classified by SAE J314 (F-1 through F-55), with national equivalents in DIN 61200 (Germany), ASTM D461 (USA), BSI (UK) and IS 282 (India). Premier Felt manufactures the full SAE range from our Bikaner facility inside Asia's largest wool market.

Located in Asia's Biggest Wool Market
Why Bikaner? Inside Asia's largest wool market.
Premier Felt was founded in 1970 in Bikaner, Rajasthan — and we have never left. The surrounding districts produce the Magra, Chokla and Marwari wool breeds that have anchored Indian industrial felting for centuries. By locating our factory inside the wool source instead of buying through traders, we get earlier pick of fleeces, better traceability, and a structural cost advantage we pass directly to our customers.
It also means we know our weavers, shepherds and shearing cycles personally. Every Premier Felt roll is the product of relationships measured in decades — not transactions.
What our customers say
Decades of repeat orders from procurement teams across automotive, polishing, civil engineering and crafts.
The hardness consistency between batches is what keeps us coming back. We've benchmarked four suppliers — Premier's batch-to-batch density variance is the lowest of any.
We've used Premier Felt's hard wheels for over fifteen years. Nothing on the market polishes 22-karat gold like a properly-graded F-3 wheel from Bikaner.
Lead times are honest and the export paperwork is always clean. For a small-batch importer like us, that reliability is everything.
How a roll of Premier Felt is made
The same five-stage process Bikaner felters have refined for a hundred years — controlled to ISO 9001 standards.
Wool Selection
Hand-graded raw wool from Rajasthan's Magra, Chokla and Marwari breeds, plus imported merino for fine grades.
Cleaning & Carding
Scoured to remove lanolin and impurities, then carded into uniform fibre webs aligned for felting.
Felting / Needling
Pressed felts: moisture, heat and mechanical agitation lock fibres. Needle-punch: thousands of barbed needles entangle synthetic or blended webs.
Finishing
Calendering for thickness uniformity, dyeing for coloured grades, FR or oil-resistant treatments where required.
QC & Dispatch
Density, tensile, oil absorption and visual checks per SAE/DIN/ASTM. Cut to drawing or rolled to spec, then export-packed.
Common questions about industrial felt
Quick answers — see our full FAQ for more.
What's the difference between pressed felt and needle-punch felt?
Pressed wool felt is made by interlocking wool fibres with moisture, heat and pressure into a tight, dense, isotropic mat (0.15–0.75 g/cm³). Needle-punch felt is mechanically entangled with barbed needles, usually from synthetic fibres or wool blends, and is lighter, more porous (100–1200 GSM) and lower cost. Choose pressed wool for dimensional stability, oil absorption and polishing; choose needle-punch for filtration, insulation, geotextiles and large widths.
How do I pick the right felt density?
0.15–0.23 g/cm³ (Soft) for cushioning & sound; 0.24–0.30 (Medium Hard) for general gasketing; 0.31–0.44 (Hard) for oil seals, lubrication wicks & vibration damping; 0.45–0.75 (Extra Hard) for polishing wheels & bobs, leather embossing and machine bushings. See the complete SAE J314 grade chart.
