Industries We Serve
From automotive assembly lines in Stuttgart to dental labs in Dallas — Premier Felt is specified into 15+ industries worldwide.
Wool felt is one of the most quietly ubiquitous industrial materials on earth — present in the cars we drive, the jewellery we wear, the dental work in our mouths, the roads under our wheels and the saddles on the horses we ride. Below: how Premier Felt shows up in each sector, what grades we recommend, and what our customers ask us for most.
Automotive
Recommended grades: F-1 to F-15, F-50
Premier Felt supplies Tier-1 and Tier-2 automotive suppliers with: door-seal gaskets, fuel-cap O-ring backing, transmission oil wicks, headliner sound-absorbing felt, trunk-liner needle-punch felt, sunroof drainage felts, hood liners and dust shields. Wool's natural FMVSS 302 flame compliance and dimensional stability under thermal cycling make it irreplaceable in many positions.
Common asks: FMVSS 302 / FMVSS 304 compliance, FOG/VOC emissions reports, low-fog binders, GADSL-compliant chemistry.
Aerospace & Defence
Recommended grades: F-1 to F-5, aramid blends
For aerospace, we supply gimbal-mounted gasket felts, vibration damping pads under avionics, polishing felts for turbine-blade finishing, and aramid (Nomex) blended needle-punch felts for thermal/acoustic insulation in fuselage assemblies. Defence customers specify Premier Felt for tank weatherproofing seals, gunnery cushioning, and small-arms maintenance polishing rolls.
Common asks: Material traceability, aramid blends to 250 °C, UL 94 V-0 / EN 45545 fire compliance, batch test certificates.
Jewellery & Precious Metals Polishing
Recommended product: Felt Wheels & Bobs (SAE F-1 to F-3)
Premier Felt's polishing wheels and bobs are used in jewellery houses across India's Jaipur and Mumbai diamond districts, Antwerp, Bangkok, New York and Dubai. Hard wool felt holds rouge and tripoli compound in its dense fibre matrix and releases it gradually — producing the mirror-finish surface that defines luxury gold, silver and platinum work. Available in cylindrical, taper-head, conical-head, bell-head, knife-edge and bullet shapes from 10 mm to 600 mm diameter.
Common asks: Mandrel-mounted vs unmounted, custom shaft diameters, density-matched sets for progressive polishing.
Dental & Medical
Recommended grades: F-2, F-3 (extra hard, fine fibre)
Dental laboratories use small Premier Felt bobs and discs for porcelain crown polishing, denture base finishing, and cast-metal restoration finishing. Medical-device customers buy wool felt for surgical-instrument polishing, ophthalmic lens edging, and as a substrate in absorbent pads. Our GOTS-certified organic wool line meets the cleanliness specifications of regulated medical use.
Common asks: Small-diameter bobs (10–50 mm), bio-compatible wool, hypoallergenic finishes.
Marble, Granite & Stone
Recommended grades: F-5, F-7 (hard wool)
Stone polishing houses in Italy, Turkey, India, China, the UAE and Brazil source Premier Felt wheels for the final lustre pass on marble, granite, quartzite and engineered stone surfaces. Felt's gentle compliance lets it follow stone curvature — ogee edges, bullnose profiles, full-bullnose — without leaving the swirl marks that rigid pads do.
Common asks: Large-diameter wheels (300–600 mm), water-resistant bonded felt, FR finishes for diamond-tool dressing.
Glass & Optics
Recommended grades: F-3, F-5
Flat-glass finishers, automotive windshield bevellers and ophthalmic lens manufacturers use hard wool felt as the final-stage polishing wheel after cerium-oxide abrasion. The dense fibre network resists glazing and produces the optically clear edge required for laminated and tempered glass.
Common asks: Edge-polishing knife-edge discs, lens-curve-conforming bobs, cerium-oxide compatible binders.
Civil Engineering & Infrastructure (Geotextiles)
Recommended product: Non-woven Geotextile (150–800 GSM)
Premier Felt's needle-punch geotextiles are used in highway sub-base separation, drainage trench wrap, erosion control on embankments, retaining-wall reinforcement and landfill liner protection. Available in widths to 6 m and rolls to 200 m for fast civil deployment. Tested to IS 16631 / ASTM D5261 / EN ISO 9864 for mass per unit area, tensile strength and permeability.
Common asks: CBR puncture resistance, permittivity ψ values, UV stabilisation for exposed installations.
Equestrian
Recommended product: Equestrian Felt (needle-punch, 200–800 GSM)
Saddle pads, half-pads, saddle blankets, hoof boots, leg wraps, stable mats and tack-room flooring are all made from Premier Felt's needle-punch equestrian felt. Wool's natural moisture-wicking and shock-absorbing properties make it the original — and still best — saddle interface. Available in custom shapes, colours and density tiers from competition-grade soft to extra-firm therapeutic.
Common asks: Anti-slip backing, machine-washable variants, branded jacquard top layers, FEI-allowed colours.
Musical Instruments
Recommended grades: F-3 to F-13, custom densities
Piano hammers, damper felts, key bushings, brass-instrument valve seals, drum-pedal beaters and string-instrument bridge cushions are all wool felt. Premier Felt supplies instrument-makers and restoration shops with the precise density gradients (typically harder at the strike face, softer at the hammer base) that define a musical tone.
Common asks: Two-tone density gradients, voicing-compatible firmness, custom dye colours, historic recipe matching.
Packaging & Logistics
Recommended grades: F-20 to F-55 (soft & medium)
Soft pressed felt and lower-density needle-punch felt is used for fragile-item protection, machinery transit padding, sensitive-equipment inserts, and silver/cutlery storage rolls. Wool's anti-tarnish ammonia output protects silver during long storage.
Common asks: Anti-tarnish treated felt, die-cut inserts, custom colours for premium packaging.
Electrical & Transformer
Recommended grades: F-5 to F-13, oil-grade
Transformer oil-wicks, switchgear vibration isolators, motor brush-housing dust seals, and lubrication pads in industrial bearings. Wool's high oil-absorption (>150% by weight) and dielectric properties make it suitable for transformer and switchgear use up to its 120 °C continuous limit.
Common asks: Transformer-oil compatibility, dielectric strength reports, vibration-grade hardness.
Leather, Textile & Tanning
Recommended grades: F-3 to F-15, plates and blocks
Leather embossing plates, suede-finishing pads, textile printer dampening rollers, and ink-distributing pads. The same property that makes felt good for polishing — controlled compound release — makes it ideal for ink, dye and finishing-compound application.
Common asks: Large-format plates (1.2 m × 1.2 m), oil-resistant variants, custom-cut press dies.
Agriculture & Horticulture
Recommended product: Needle-punch wool blends, capillary mats
Capillary irrigation mats, plant-protection winter wraps, greenhouse shading, soil-erosion stabilisers and weed-suppression mats. Wool felt's combination of biodegradability, moisture-retention and slow nutrient release makes it a natural fit for sustainable horticulture.
Common asks: Biodegradable certifications, capillary efficiency data, custom roll widths for greenhouse benches.
Art, Craft & Design
Recommended product: Coloured Felts (1–25 mm)
Architects, interior designers, craft makers and educational institutions buy Premier Felt's coloured wool felt in plain and mélange effects for acoustic wall panels, bag-making, soft toys, decorative articles, carpets, rugs and runners. Custom colours matched to Pantone or RAL on request.
Common asks: Pantone match, fade-resistant dyes, FR-treated for commercial use, custom thickness for laser cutting.
Filtration
Recommended product: Needle-punch wool & synthetic blends
Air filtration in HVAC, dust collection for industrial process exhaust, liquid filtration in food and pharmaceutical processing, and oil-mist coalescing. Premier Felt's needle-punch felts are tested to relevant filtration efficiency standards.
Common asks: Micron rating, basis weight uniformity, anti-static treatment, high-temperature PPS or aramid blends.
